Canada's Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR):
British Columbia - Blue Lakes Wild Camp to Elkford
June, 2017
Highlights
Day 4:
Today will be a simple and enjoyable ride from our Primitive Camp to Elkford.
We're now in the province of British Columbia.
We will arrive in town about 0930 hours and check into the Hi Roc Inn (motel) which is newly owned by a wonderful Korean Gentleman. We had already placed a shuttle vehicle there (a 250 cc Enduro).
At Elkford, Terry will wash the bike (at the Hotel Manager's suggestion) and Dennis will spend 4 hour's driving each way to Banff in order to fetch our primary vehicle and trailer.
In the late evening, we will prepare the bicycle, vehicle, and trailer so as to drive to Fernie in the morning (about an hours drive) in order to get the rack mounts repaired at a Bicycle Shop, to remove the unnecessary rack bracket, and to have a general condition inspection (with associated quick fixes).

Above Right: The road conditions are great.
Above Left: A variety of Astor.
Above Right: Enjoying this road.
Above Left: Truck coming (not familiar with this kind of truck function). I need to mention that every commercial truck, to include the log carriers, did slow down for us. Unfortunately, 10, 18 or 24 wheels on the ground makes a cloud of dust, even at 2 kph or 2 mph.
Above Right: A variety of Groundsel.
Above Left: Looking ahead (south).
Above Right: Looking east.
Above Left: We're looking east, into the morning sun. It is difficult to tell in this light but that looks like it may be huge mine tailing deposits.
Above Right: There is a huge building up there, likely it is mine process related.
Above Left: We know this as Mountain Bluebell.
Above Right: This may be a variety of Skullcap, the photo angle makes it difficult to determine.
Welcome to Elkford, BC, Canada
Above Left: That is one lumber truck and he slowed to about 10 MPH/15 KPH for us.
Above Right: Welcome to Elkford, BC, Canada - The sign is about 5 kilometers from the first dwelling.
Above Left: Penstemon variety.
Above Right: Wild Rose, we could smell them on the roadside.
Above Left: A sign of civilization.
Above Right: Another sign of civilization, a paved road.
Above Left: Budding wild rose. Oh the scent in the air.
Above Right: A great Elkford map, we're at Hwy 43 and Fording Highway. The Main GDMBR Route follows Fording Highway from here, but we are going off the route to affect some repairs.
Above Left: Dragline Bucket Information.
Above Right: Dennis, the Bee, and a super large dragline bucket.
Above: JAWS! Terry Struck and the Bee are inside the Dragline Bucket with plenty of room to spare.
Above: Fenders Work! The Bee has seen some action.
Summary
We had a very pleasant ride coming into the town of Elkford. We arrived at about 0930 hours. Dennis will take the shuttle vehicle (an Enduro Motorbike, already parked in Elkford) and return to Banff to pickup the primary vehicle while Terry offloads the gear on the bicycle, washes the bicycle, and preps the bicycle to be taken to town (Fernie) which is about a 1 hour drive south. The turnaround time for Dennis will be about 9 hours.
