Day 1
Athens to Korinth, Greece
Taxi > Train > Taxi > Hotel > Build Bike
Above: Map of Athens at the Athos Hotel with a handy You-Are-Here Arrow. Our Athens hotel was centrally located for walking to the sites that we wanted to see from the Acropolis and its Museums to the southwest to the Parliament, Central Plaza, and the Perpetually Guarded Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers (Spartan BC Time to the 1822 Revolution) to the northeast to the Olympic Stadium and Hadrian’s Gate to the southeast.
We are departing Athens for Korinth with our luggage and our bike still in its two aluminum suitcases.
Above Left: Our Taxi is on the correct route. There are two train stations a local Central Station which leads to the Central Hub for the Greek wide rail system. Because of our load and the business of the Central Station, we are taking a taxi to the Central Hub, which is about 20 miles to the northwest of our Athens’ hotel.
Above Right: We are headed for Corinth/Korinth/Korinthos. Kiato is two stops beyond our Korinth stop. We are safely on the train with a fellow bike rider who had already helped us.
Above Left: Terry met the Alkyon Hotel's Famous Greeter. The name "Alkyon" comes from a bird that resides on an island just northwest of here.
Above Right: Map of the Old World.
Above Left: One of our Bicycle Cases, already partially unpacked.
Above Right: We lay out our bike components on a plastic sheet. The Plastic sheet keeps dirt off of our bike parts, keeps grease and oil off the grounds, and keeps people off our assembly area.
Above Left: The Bee was test ridden and ready to go places. Here, we were about to make arrangements to park the Bee next to the hotel owner's private garage. The Bee was happy.
Above Right: We were about 200 meters from the Alkyon's beach on the Corinthian Sea. Terry has stuck her feet in salt water of every sea that we have ever been near, from Australia to Scotland. The water was warm, the coast was pebbles, and people were swimming off shore.
Above Left: We went for a little walk up the coast and caught this bicycle art.
Above Right: Another restaurant is setting-up for a romantic dinner on the beach.
