A mapping of the Pahute Tribes in 1850.

Above: A mapping of the Pahute Tribes in 1850 - This was well done, hand drawn, and freely hanging in the hallway of our lodge. Sometimes (even in this map there is an alternate spelling as 'Piute' and also 'Paiute'). Generally, people do not know that the Pahute are part of the Ute Nation (western and mountain Colorado) and that the very name Utah means something akin to Ute Land or Of the Utes.

Backroads Guide Trivia: Since there are only eight of us riders on this particular Bike Tour, there are only two Guides/Leaders and there are two vehicles and a trailer (more for gear than bikes, bikes go on top of the Passenger Vans). THEREFORE: The Guides only get to go on bike rides when group stays overnight two nights in a row at the same location. The guides, of course are avid bikers, they love to pedal with the riders! On this particular tour they will get two opportunities to ride, once here at Bryce (where we stay two nights) and one more time at Zion (where we will stay another two nights). FURTHERMORE: Today is just a morning ride and both guides need to be back at the lodge parking lot today in order to lead an afternoon hike into the canyon.

Above Left: This bush/shrub looks similar to the Huckleberry and Blueberry plants. We didn't know anything about the plant but later we would ask a Ranger at Rainbow Point. She just happened to know quite a bit about the plant, she knows the plant as 'Manzanita'. That says a lot about the berry, Manzana is Spanish for Apple and Manzanita would imply Little or Tiny Apple. The Ranger confirmed that it is a little berry (sized like Huckleberry and Blueberry), it has an apple like taste, and it is is edible.

From Rainbow Point, Pedal Back to Bryce Point

We were returning to Bryce Point. Tandem selfie of Dennis & Terry and that distant rider is Julianna.

Above Left: We were returning to Bryce Point which more or less was where our Lodge is located. The good news is that the ride will be mostly downhill.

Above Right: Tandem selfie of Dennis & Terry and that distant rider is Julianna. We actually rode 3 or 4 miles with 'Jules' and we did one pull-off together but there are no pictures because we were having a long conversation while riding, and when we were stopped at the pull-off. Julianna had to get back quickly to lead the afternoon hike into the canyon.

Summary

Terry and I had a grand day and we enjoyed ourselves.

Later that day, Terry and I had a discussion about how slow we have become. We've been the last riders to arrive for three or four years and it has been affecting our hosts on occasion. In the past, we have discussed the possibly getting an e-tandem (electric assist tandem). Our discussion led us to decide to purchase an e-tandem. We decided that we would visit da Vinci designs upon our return to Colorado and proceed on a course of self-education followed by a purchase decision.
