We Pedaled South out of Salta for Dique Cabra Corral (86 k)
Above Left: We cycled south out of town. We were pretty busy with life to this point; we stopped to take a picture at the outskirts.
Above Right: Passing through little water drainage ditches became de rigor. This is a backshot, that tire track is ours. Humor: When we ride through water, the Stoker's feet are always up.
Above, from Alejandro Diaz Diaz: "We call this tree 'Espino'. In our country some people who are living in the country side make charcoal to warm their house and cooking."
All: Nice highway underpass graffiti.
Above Left: Cafayate is tomorrow’s destination, today we are heading about halfway to Dique Cabra Corral.
Above Right: We're following the frontage road south for about 4 more kilometers, and then we turn west.
Above Left: I can no longer remember why we stopped. Those are the foothills to the Andes in the far background. It will be overcast all day but it will never rain on us. There is a low pressure weather system sitting near the Falkland Islands (about 200 miles to the east) and it is affecting our local weather.
Above Right: Good Food.
Above Left: A beautiful view. We are now heading west.
Above Right: Well, it is interesting.
Above Left: We have arrived at Valle de Lerma / Rosario de Lerma (known by both names).
Above Right: Naranjas. That's me in both of the backgrounds, pictures by Terry.
Above Left: Papayas, I think.
Above Right: Deep Pink Lapacho in bloom.
Above Left: A roadside stop for pictures - I (Dennis) am looking at Terry through my glass’s mounted mirror.
Above Right: The mountain foothills are not all that far away. I will never rain today but it will continue to be gloomy looking all day. As for us, we are having a good time discovering our way around northern Argentina.
Above Left: We never figured what the building was, it could have been an old railroad depot converted to an office building but it is in the middle of a cow pasture.
The term Pilgrimage comes from the Latin Peregrinatio. Here, Peregrins, a term for the people 'on a Pilgrimage', are walking, cycling (by pedal or motor), carpooling, bussing, and riding on tractor lead flat beds (some with covers, some with acoustic music) to the Catedral Basilica de Salta (Salta City, Salta Province, Argentina). Large groups get a police escort (to prevent traffic issues and for Pilgrim/Peregrin Safety). They are all friendly, happy, and often wave, always returning a wave. Other people wave and honk horns for encouragement.
Above: Another set of Peregrins on bicycle.
Above Left: Another Lapacho Tree.
Above Right: Nice rural view. Notice the Electricity Eating Moss.
Above Left: Argentine Cattle-on-Road signs have HUGE Utters.
Above Right: Just a nice view and a nice moment.
Dique Cabra Corral (Reservoir of the Goat Corral)
Above Left: We have reached the northern edge of Dique Cabra Corral (Reservoir of the Goat Corral). We probably still have 15 kilometers to ride.
Above Right: A view across the norther end of Dique Cabra Corral.
Above Left: A well to do home awaits summer sun and fun.
Above Right: A new plant for us.
Above: A nice home and view on Dique Cabra Corral (Dique literally translates to Dam, but the meaning is Reservoir ... of the Goat Corral).
Above Left: There is an Argentine Navy Reserve base on this lake but I think this was the Dique Cabra Corral Yacht Club.
Above Right: A nice home with many great lake views.
Above Left: A reminder that we are in Salta Province in Lerma Valley.
Above Right: Here we are at Point #7 in the adjacent picture - Dennis & Terry Struck and the Bee at Dique Cabra Corral, Provincia de Salta, Argentina on September 13, 2016. We made it to the middle of the lake where the main road crosses the lake and then follows the other side of the lake for what I am guessing is another 6 to 8 kilometers. Our hotel is only a couple of kilometers further along the road.
Above Left: We reached the end of the lake road, it continues up the Valley but we turned around.
Above Right: We returned to the mid-lake crossing point at the only restaurant that is open. Our hotel has a restaurant but it does not open until 8 pm and we will be asleep by then.
Above: Today's offerings.
Above Left: Quilmes Negra is a cross between a Stout and an Amber, my opinion, and we like it.
Above Right: The Chef is readying our Fish of the Lake but it will look like it is from the Freezer.
Above Left: It's a nice looking summer time resort restaurant at the beginning of the season.
Above Right: What Hummus looks like before it is ground-up.
Above Left: Our Fish of the Lake, it did taste good, but I am not sure that it came from this lake.
Above Right: El Gato 'The Begger', at first he was cute. He quickly determined who the lady was at the table but he struck out today (pun).
Above: The view of Dique Cabra Corral from the back of Hotel del Dique.
We had a good and comfortable day in the 70's F/20's C and it never did rain.
