Nazca Lines
Above: Map of Flyover Images in Nazca Valley. There are more zoomorphic figures than what is displayed in this map.
Above Left: We took the bus to the city if Ica where we were already scheduled for an afternoon flyover of the Nazca Lines.
The Nazca Lines are a series of large ancient geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert, in southern Peru. The largest figures are up to 1,200 ft (370 m) long. They were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 80 km (50 mi) between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana, about 400 km south of Lima. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 500 BCE and 500 CE. The figures vary in complexity. Hundreds are simple lines and geometric shapes; more than 70 are zoomorphic designs of animals, such as birds, fish, llamas, jaguars, and monkeys, or human figures. Other designs include phytomorphic shapes, such as trees and flowers. - Wikipedia

Above: Hummingbird.
Above: Spider.
Above Left: This is our normal vision view in the bright light and very bumpy midday flight. The next three photos were processed from this photograph. Do note the amazing quantity of field work performed here over time. Note that it seems that different generations of work would create lines over previous works of art.
Above Right: The Fork/Hand/Mitt image seems independent of the partial Big Bird image.
Above: There is the beginning of a very large bird design that seems to just end as incomplete and the smaller bird design may be from the same project, it is all speculation.
Above: Little Condor/Eagle/Bird in flight. It is difficult to tell if the bird was originally designed to carry something or if the pair of circles were added latter.
Above: Alcatraz, the bird.
Above: Alcatraz, the bird. We never learned story or source for the name.
Above: Alcatraz, the bird (not too far from Big Bird whose tight parallel lines are visible in the upper right quadrant).
Above Left: Normal View, 3 Objects.
Above Right: Contrast Turned On.
Above: Caiman.
Above: Tree.
Above: Sparrow/Small Bird, a speculation, the map states "hands".
Above: Perhaps the beginning of a Turkey (about two weeks earlier, we saw wild Turkeys in a forest in the mountain hills of Argentina). Visible are many lines, a few trapezoids, and note that Little Bird is in the upper left corner of the photo.
Wow, Bucket List CHECK!
It was a long quiet bus ride home, we were exhausted.
