New England Fall Foliage Tandem Bicycle Tour:
A Supported Loop Tour from South Portland through Old Orchard Beach, Maine;
Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Amesbury, Massachusetts; Salem, New Hampshire;
Manchester, New Hampshire; Sanford, Maine; and back to South Portland;
October, 2017
Day 5 - Salem to Manchester, New Hampshire; October, 2017
Above Left: The Bee spent the night inside the Trailer and we spent the night on the #2 floor of a hotel. Terry is prepping the Bee, Judy is getting her bike ready, and Judy will be the Peloton Leader Today. BTW, Peloton is French for Platoon.
Above Right: It did not take us long to depart the city. We were inland from the coast and would remain that way for our entire loop back to South Portland, subsequently we would be seeing a lot more Fall Foliage Color (and more hills).
Above Left: Fall Foliage.
Above Right: We re-crossed the Merrimack River; here the river was running from NNW to SSE and the photo is viewing northward across our tandem shadow selfie.
Nashua, NH
Above Left: This Monument, in downtown Nashua, is dedicated to the Soldiers and Sailors of New Hampshire who Fought in the 'War of the Rebellion' [Civil War, 1860s].
Terry and I would probably have missed a tricky turn in the middle of town, near this monument, had Pam not posted the van and herself to signal us as we approached. We were very much in crowded traffic mode navigating through the center of a busy city - Read that as a Thank You.
Above Right: It did not take long to return to the countryside and its Fall Foliage.
Above: Lakes and Rivers.
Above Left: Roadside Halloween Decoration (Photo by Pam).
Above Right: The Bee, hard at work (Photo by Pam).
Best SAG Stop Location
Above Left: My Favorite Girls, Terry and the Bee. Gary on the far left, Karen and Judy to the far right.
Above Right: Veterans Memorial Park, NH - Nice Fall Foliage View.
Above: Best SAG Stop Location, Great Fall Foliage View.
Above: This is a thing in New Hampshire, I finally got smart enough to take a picture. It appears to be Stone Fence Posts from a past era (like a three hundred years ago) when the labor for stone quarry work was affordable.
Above Left: Cemetery, first row is 1900s, second row is 1800s, and the third row is 1700s. Flags almost always represent Veterans.
Above Right: Farm with a view.
Destination: Manchester, New Hampshire
Above Left: Everyone mentioned how a bike tour just isn't a 'good tour' unless there is a nice climb at the end of the day (an old bike joke) - That is us on a 'good tour', along with Lil Karen closing in on us and Gary at the top of the hill (photo by Judy).
Above Right: We made it to Manchester, NH - Terry and the Bee prepare for the end of the day. Some of the riders had boisterous traffic drivers. We heard a driver yelling at another driver. It seemed that a lot of people in this area had lost a lot of their human patience.
